Gateway Arch in St. Louis 1963 / 886 tons (or 630 feet) of 304 stainless Steel
via
The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri was completed. The final touches were finished in 1965, and it stands as America's tallest monument. The most significant purchase in early America was the Louisiana Purchase, and at the time even Missouri was sparsely inhabited. Once the purchase was made and Americans were interested in exploring the new west, St. Louis, became the main stop before venturing into to the new unknown land. It was dubbed the "Gateway to the West." The arch was completed 162 years after the Louisiana Purchase.

Favorite : Flower

One of my favorite types of flowers is the hydrangea. I love its simplicity and beauty. With it being fall, I miss seeing this spring time flower, even though the only place you can get them in Arizona is potted in a nursery. But still, Michael's Craft Store can't have enough in fall colors to keep me satisfied until May. Don't know what a hydrangea looks like? Keep scrolling.

Happy Sunday Ya'll!

When doubts filled my mind,
your comfort gave me renewed
 hope and cheer.

Psalm 94:19

How I felt about a week ago.
Source

This past week was a doozy. Well actually it wasn't. I decided to take some action, and give myself a break. As a full-time student, you might be wondering what I needed a break from. Only God knows. All I know is that I was feeling really beaten down, just by life, commitments, due dates, restrictions, and the hustle and bustle of a regular day. My mind needed to rest, my body needed to as well, and my emotions needed to get a reality check and get back in order.

Psalm 94:19 really did help me through my week. Its funny how even though I was feeling awful and unstable, God still used me. I was able to help a friend out with an assignment, He used me. I went to the Catechism class I teach and lead the students in a live rosary. They LOVED it and were so proud to show off their knowledge of prayers, He used me. Because of my slight alienation from the world, I was able to finish all my homework with out procrastinating! I don't know if that counts as a "He used me", because it only benefited me, but still I felt good entering the weekend knowing that I could relax.

This week only secured the comforting thought in my head that says, "He will use me." It doesn't matter where I am, what life path I'm on, and the pit stops I make, because I am on His schedule. I should not worry about too much, because I will end up where I'm meant to be. I believe in letting life happen because I walk in His path. He laid it out just for me, and he will not let me voyage it alone.

White House cornerstone laid in 1792. Of course we all know it was put in a place called "Washington" which was created to replace Philadelphia as the capital of the United states of America. President George Washington chose the site where the 'executive mansion' would sit, which would eventually be named 1600  Pennsylvania Avenue. President John Adams would be the first to live in the executive mansion, but it was President Theodore Roosevelt was the first to call it White House, after asking to have the name engraved on his stationary.

Introducing... History Thursday.

History Thursday is something that I am going to attempt to start. I like history. U.S. history is my favorite. History Thursdays will consist of facts and stories about stuff that has happened in U.S. history. I might expand to world history if I feel it necessary.

A little background about my love for the past. I took your average HIS 101 and 102 classes at the college I attend now. My only mistake in taking these two classes was the professor choice. She made herself completely unavailable to students and seemed to be doing her job half-way anyway. For one instance, we had a ten page paper due. My topic for 101 was Mormons,it basically covered their significance in U.S. history, their trek west, and the success of their establishment in the Rockies with and with out government assistance. We were to turn in our first 5 pages after four weeks of writing. Then the whole ten page, complete essay was due just two weeks later. She did not respond or give us back our papers until 3 days before our final due date! That would have been perfectly fine (not really, three days to change our entire essay if need be?!?), but don't instructors always say,

Don't wait until the last minute to turn in!
Computer problems are not an acceptable excuse!
 ETC.

Well..... I listened to that advice and turned in my paper 4 days before the due date. I can't remember what I had going on, on the actual due date but I know I was busy so I had to turn it in early. Therefore, I missed my instructor's comments on the first half of my paper. The comments basically told me I was kinda going in the wrong direction and needed to pay attention to the Mormon's role as minorities in America at that time. So was my paper exactly what she asked for? No. Not at all. Needless to say, I was entirely frustrated about the whole class, why did I take two classes with this instructor? I'm crazy. That's why.

Despite my unfortunate expeirences taking my history classes, some where along the way I became enamoured of the subject. As it is, I was always kind of patriotic, and living and learning as an adult has only made me appreciate the value of learning and knowing history even more. I'm hoping History Thursday's aren't an incredible bore, but this is my blog, and I'm gonna post some good ol' stuff about American history and pop culture. Its gonna be a blast!

Ten

Day Ten: One confession.

Sometimes I feel out of control. Like things that I should have a say in, are happening with out my blessing or input. I know that the Lord's will, will be done. But there are sometimes where I want to feel in control of something. That is usually when I start a project, or think of something to study, or a write. Because when you write a story, the pen in your hand makes it unfold. Been feeling like that lately, but I know it will go away eventually.

Nine

Day Nine: Two words that describe your life right now.

His will.

What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame?
And a God who gave life "its" name?
What do I know of Holy?
Of the One who the angels praise?
All creation knows Your name
On earth and heaven above
What do I know of this love?

Flowers and weeds.

Flowers.
Delicate. Classic. Sometimes Feminine. Beautiful All The Time.

No one should under estimate the power of flowers. Yes, they do have that, "They'll be dead in a week!" stigma attached to them. But as a person who appreciates little gestures, and the little smile on your face when you smell a sweet rose, I love flowers.

It should be noted though, the gift of one flower, does indeed, take just as much thought as a whole bouquet.

Some times life can be like a flower. We are the small little seed earthed in a place so significant, only God knows why we fell there. We come above ground not knowing our surroundings, some of us are on a branch with others just like us, some are in fields with flowers just as beautiful, and some of us will end up being a single flower among weeds.
As we grow, we might not see our differences from those around us, and we can keep on growing, living life as we see it. God is our sun, our life line and journey. Water and rain is opportunity that comes to us, just as it comes to the weeds around us. But as a flower, we take the water and use it to nourish our souls, so that we may keep making the reach toward the sun. The sun that gives us life. The sun we can always count on rising each morning. We stretch and  seize each ray trying to reach it, knowing that it has been good to us, and believing that it holds promises and life. Everyday, we look for its shining warmth, having faith that it will one day shine on the reason we were born among weeds.

But are we really a flower? What if we are just a weed too? Although not as beautiful as a flower, a weed also grows towards the sun as well. It too waits for the sun to come up every day. If a weed is given the same opportunity as a flower it too can be beautiful. It too can reach for the sun and soak up the rain, even though it looks just like the weed beside it.  Perhaps we should know that not all flowers deserve to be flowers, and some weeds, well some weeds are really flowers on the inside. And they live to reach for the sun, and make the world a little more beautiful.

Six and Five

Six things you wish you could change or you wish you’d never done.
6. Changed for Someone
5.Let people walk all over me
4. Being snobby towards people.
3. Getting off my "life track".
2. Trusting the wrong people.
1. Wasting time.

Five people who mean a lot to you.
1. Mama -
Obvious reasons, who doesn't love their Mama? Mine is the best, but of course I'm biased.
2. Grandmama
She's hilarious. The woman had her young adult years in the 40's and 50's, right before she had 11 kids.
So I can understand why she keeps asking when I'm gonna get married. My favorite thing
in the world, is seeing/making her laugh.
3. Siblings
Sometimes the only people who can or will understand, are the people who grew up with you.
4. Alyssa Laurel
My BFF. Consistency, respect, humor, secrets, understanding, love. Been with me through
some pretty hard times in my life, when I first met my bff my whole world would soon change,
and of course, hers did too.
5. Me
I mean this in the most non-egotistical/concieted way possible. I speak of me as  the myself that I can
control and that needs my help. Me is important because I sometimes take care of others before myself.
"Me" means a lot to me, but I should probably start doing things to make "Me" believe it.

7 things that cross my mind.

Seven things that cross my mind often...

1. Really?/Really?!?!/REALLY!
-Often used as a question, or a rhetorical inquiry.

2. I'mmma pray for you.
-Said and meant for so many different people
for so many different reasons.

3. Make up your mind please.
Mostly regarding boys.

4. Thats what she said.
Ha... Sometimes that pops up in my head.
(twss... hehe)

5. Ok, What did I (do, say, think, breath, gesture) wrong?
Generally spoken regarding life.

6. OMG, what time is it?
Regarding homework, Procrastination is my middle name.
I don't wait to do it until the last minute, I just submit
everything on the due date, I don't know why.

7. I'm Yours.
Reminding myself that I'm on God's schedule, and
at his will. I say this more some days than others.
