The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri was completed. The final touches were finished in 1965, and it stands as America's tallest monument. The most significant purchase in early America was the Louisiana Purchase, and at the time even Missouri was sparsely inhabited. Once the purchase was made and Americans were interested in exploring the new west, St. Louis, became the main stop before venturing into to the new unknown land. It was dubbed the "Gateway to the West." The arch was completed 162 years after the Louisiana Purchase.

Here we go again...

Favorite : Flower

One of my favorite types of flowers is the hydrangea. I love its simplicity and beauty. With it being fall, I miss seeing this spring time flower, even though the only place you can get them in Arizona is potted in a nursery. But still, Michael's Craft Store can't have enough in fall colors to keep me satisfied until May. Don't know what a hydrangea looks like? Keep scrolling.

     This past week was a doozy. Well actually it wasn't. I decided to take some action, and give myself a break. As a full-time student, you might be wondering what I needed a break from. Only God knows. All I know is that I was feeling really beaten down, just by life, commitments, due dates, restrictions, and the hustle and bustle of a regular day. My mind needed to rest, my body needed to as well, and my emotions needed to get a reality check and get back in order.

     Psalm 94:19 really did help me through my week. Its funny how even though I was feeling awful and unstable, God still used me. I was able to help a friend out with an assignment, He used me. I went to the Catechism class I teach and lead the students in a live rosary. They LOVED it and were so proud to show off their knowledge of prayers, He used me. Because of my slight alienation from the world, I was able to finish all my homework with out procrastinating! I don't know if that counts as a "He used me", because it only benefited me, but still I felt good entering the weekend knowing that I could relax.

    This week only secured the comforting thought in my head that says, "He will use me." It doesn't matter where I am, what life path I'm on, and the pit stops I make, because I am on His schedule. I should not worry about too much, because I will end up where I'm meant to be. I believe in letting life happen because I walk in His path. He laid it out just for me, and he will not let me voyage it alone.

     White House cornerstone laid in 1792. Of course we all know it was put in a place called "Washington" which was created to replace Philadelphia as the capital of the United states of America. President George Washington chose the site where the 'executive mansion' would sit, which would eventually be named 1600  Pennsylvania Avenue. President John Adams would be the first to live in the executive mansion, but it was President Theodore Roosevelt was the first to call it White House, after asking to have the name engraved on his stationary.

Introducing... History Thursday.

  

    History Thursday is something that I am going to attempt to start. I like history. U.S. history is my favorite. History Thursdays will consist of facts and stories about stuff that has happened in U.S. history. I might expand to world history if I feel it necessary.

    A little background about my love for the past. I took your average HIS 101 and 102 classes at the college I attend now. My only mistake in taking these two classes was the professor choice. She made herself completely unavailable to students and seemed to be doing her job half-way anyway. For one instance, we had a ten page paper due. My topic for 101 was Mormons,it basically covered their significance in U.S. history, their trek west, and the success of their establishment in the Rockies with and with out government assistance. We were to turn in our first 5 pages after four weeks of writing. Then the whole ten page, complete essay was due just two weeks later. She did not respond or give us back our papers until 3 days before our final due date! That would have been perfectly fine (not really, three days to change our entire essay if need be?!?), but don't instructors always say,

Don't wait until the last minute to turn in!   

Computer problems are not an acceptable excuse!

 ETC.

     Well..... I listened to that advice and turned in my paper 4 days before the due date. I can't remember what I had going on, on the actual due date but I know I was busy so I had to turn it in early. Therefore, I missed my instructor's comments on the first half of my paper. The comments basically told me I was kinda going in the wrong direction and needed to pay attention to the Mormon's role as minorities in America at that time. So was my paper exactly what she asked for? No. Not at all. Needless to say, I was entirely frustrated about the whole class, why did I take two classes with this instructor? I'm crazy. That's why.

     Despite my unfortunate expeirences taking my history classes, some where along the way I became enamoured of the subject. As it is, I was always kind of patriotic, and living and learning as an adult has only made me appreciate the value of learning and knowing history even more. I'm hoping History Thursday's aren't an incredible bore, but this is my blog, and I'm gonna post some good ol' stuff about American history and pop culture. Its gonna be a blast!
